Combat

Fast turns, clear choices, dangerous consequences, and constant momentum.

COMMON FOUNDATION

Core Stat + Skill + 1d10

Use the relevant approach, training, modifiers, and roll. Opposed actions compare totals. Damage, armor, shields, powers, movement, and consequences build from the same simple foundation.

Describe the danger

Make the stakes and changing battlefield clear.

Player declares

Ask what the character is trying to accomplish, not only which button they press.

Build and roll

Choose the relevant Core Stat, Skill, modifiers, costs, and opposition.

Resolve and move

Apply damage, protection, conditions, movement, and consequences without freezing the scene.

Keep players close to the action

Even when it is not their turn, players should be watching the battlefield, reacting to danger, planning the next move, helping allies, or waiting for the moment everything changes.

Almost anything is attemptable

Do not guarantee success. Find the roll, cost, risk, consequence, or challenge that makes the attempt possible.
